Chessie-painted engines could be either way - if it was an original C&O engine,
the "short" hood was usually the "F" end, but if it was an original B&O engine,
the "long" hood was the "F" end. Most railroads gradually wound up with the
"F" end on the short hood for visibility reasons, with the Norfolk & Western
and Southern being the last holdouts. not sure about SOO.
Just try and guess which way is forward on this one without looking for the "F":
