It's an interesting story. The local owner has run a pro store for years and is
presently in the process of winding up and retiring - he wants to sell just
Leica and rare valve hi-fi from now on.
He owns this and some other very rare gear. Some years ago, he had a break-in
at the city store and this was nicked. He mentally wrote it off, assuming that
the thieves would have dumped it - such an odd thing would not go unnoticed on
the used market. Then years later (about six or seven I think) he saw it for
sale on-line. He inquired and fronted. The seller was offerring it in all
innocence. He'd bought at a flea market years before for $20 or so, thinking it
was a bit of astronomical equipment and had never got around to playing with
it. He was hoping to get a hundred or so for it. Needless to say, John happily
p[aid him that and they parted on good terms. I shudder to think what it was
actually worth.
