FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Art and Images of Occupy
First Thursday, Portland, Oregon • December 1, 6-9PM • 625 NW Everett No 108
Portland, Oregon. Occupy First Thursday. The Occupy Portland Camps at Chapman
and Lownsdale Square Parks are as much a part of history as Tom McCall’s Vortex
Rock Concert and many other things uniquely Oregon. While there are or were
Occupy Camps of one sort or another in over 500 cities worldwide, as with many
things, Portland’s was unique in the world. Unique because of it’s size (the
second largest), unique because of the vast array of services provided to all
comers (at one point over 1500 meals were being served a day), and unique
because of the vast array of artistic talent the camps attracted.
This opening is a celebration of the art created at or about the camps and
dedicated to the camps and the ideas and ideals behind the Occupy Movement,
past, present and future. Including over one hundred photographs from local
photographers, poetry, fiber, metal, and other artisans. The exhibit will also
include signs salvaged from the camp, which, at end of the show, will be
donated to the Oregon Historical Society’s permanent collection.
Twenty-five percent of proceeds from the event will be donated to the City of
Portland for Park Restoration.
So, no matter whether you were a camper, a Portland Police Officer, a
politician, a broadcaster or are a collector of art and artifacts or a lover of
the creative power that is uniquely Portland, please join us to celebrate our
city, our people and our artists, Thursday, December 1, 2011 from 6 to 9PM at
625 NW Everett Street Gallery Number 108.
Needless to say, it would not be Portland without coffee and other local
beverages!
Thank you!
