Photoshop is not $600 per year, read the announcement folks. Not sure I
understand the bias against Adobe. If you use the entire suite, this is a good
deal, especially for corporate situations that need this. They have not change
the price structure for individuals. Overall I feel Photoshop to be pretty much
a bargain. You should see what I have to pay for development tools for embedded
system design, and the quality of the tools is far below the quality of a
Photoshop. If you make your money off these tools they are worth it. I spend
$900/year for Microsoft MSDN and Visual Studio, which I use even for embedded
system design. It more than pays for the productivity gain.
If you want to get the entire Creative Suite, $600 per year for those who need
Dreamweaver, Illustrator, InDesign, ..... pretty much every tool, is not a bad
price, especially if you are corporate and have a team that uses the tools.
For individual users, certainly not be the path for you. But even so, I find
Photoshop an extremely creative tool for those times I want that, and worth the
upgrade price. If you only want to develop photos, probably not the tool you
need.
As a software developer, I appreciate well designed tools. If the tool is not
for you and not something you need, yeah, the price is high, but you don't need
it, so quit the belly aching.
