I did so instantly. It screams McCurry to anyone familiar with his portrait
work.
I was given the small Phaidon book "Portraits" as a gift a couple of years ago.
With over 250 images, it's not something
I've sat down to 'read' through, but browse at random occasionally.
Hard to blame the guy for jumping on the big chance his Afghan girl image gave
him, but I find the endless pictures of
wide eyed children repetitive. Many of those of adults follow the same formula.
With both, it all too often seems to me
to obscure character, rather than offer at least the sense of connection and
illumination a good portrait gives.
Edit the book down to maybe 30 of the best images and it might be compelling.
