Hi Charlie,
This is the blacksmith vise that was developed by Peter Wright in England in
the 1800s, and exported and copied by many manufacturers. I can find no
markings on it, but that is not unusual. It is still very useful. To get
back on topic, I have used it to hold wood for fabricating view camera
parts.
