I spent all of yesterday hiking in a somewhat rugged area about 50 miles
NNE of here, looking for late summer (or early fall) wildflowers. I took my
recently acquired Tamron 28-80mm Adaptall 2 lens out for it's maiden voyage,
which turned out to be an ideal lens for wildflower photography as the macro
will focus down to 0.36m above 35mm FL. I only had to use a close-up accessory
once to get the fine details of a small flower, whereas I would normally have
resorted to an accessory five or more times for the situations I encountered.
For the one instance I used a 35mm Vivitar extension tube, which gave me
the results I desired. I carry a set of those as well as a 1/2/4 close-up set
and a 2X telemacro (macro-focusing teleconverter).
Using the extension tube reminded me that the Vivitar set is for OM mount
lenses, whereas I also have lenses with Pentax and Nikon mounts. There are
extension tube sets avaiable from China for the OM 4/3 mount, and I was
wondering if anyone here has first-hand experience with these. They're an
interesting design where there is a camera base, a lens base, and the tubes
themselves that thread into the bases.
