Just a quick followup.
I played around with some serious highlight and shadow recovery on the 5D
and E-1 files. Without a doubt, the 5D is the king of highlight recovery.
Granted, things lose color accuracy (reds and magentas die a horrible
death), but there is another stop or two of range hidden up there.
Shadows are another story. What the E-1 has lost on the top end it most
certainly makes up on the bottom end. The 5D mushes out and loses tonal
gradient whereas the E-1 is still maintaining crisp deliniation between
squares. Where the 5D turns blahish, the E-1 is still punchy.
A quick look at the 7D files shows that it's a little more exciting in the
shadows than the 5D, but has something not quite looking right. More to
come.
