Jim, I'm surprised that you don't have a BG for your E-1.
In a way it is a mixed bag. It makes the camera very large and
heavy--especially with an oversized lens. But you can intimidate thugs
down at the local biker bar with it.
It took me quite a while to really get used to it since the ergonomics
of the E-1 are so perfect to begin with, but it has really grown on
me. The BG resides on the camera most of the time, but when I want to
travel light, I'll stick a dinky OM Zuiko on it and go with just the
internal battery.
Not really any different than using winders or motordrives on the OM
bodies. It's not that it's really better with or without. It's just an
alternative configuration for different needs.
Talk about stability, though. It's a monster rock and when you press
the shutter release you feel absolutely nothing from the shutter.
