Brian,
I also use XP, and sometimes see drive activity, but I assume it is Norton
running the checks that it does from time to time. So far as I know, I have
not lost any files. I use folders for Year>Month>Day, and identify camera
and lens in the folder name. I have these on a separate external drive, and
archive a batch ever so often to some inactive drives that I keep
disconnected from anything.
While this does not enable much in the way of searching, I find I can
usually pin down the approximate date, and search a few folders to find what
I need.
