Probably Win7.
Fruitophiles snipes aside, Windoze has gotten progressively better. 98 was
dodgy, and I had to do a lot of fussing to
keep the wireless stuff working. XP is better, but getting all the network and
wireless stuff working is sometimes
distinctly odd. Vista is much closer to seamless. And Win7 has been quite
seamless. Plug the wired connector in, and it
works. Turn wireless on - and it works. Leave 'em both on, and it works.
My current network has one of each. Mostly, they play nicely together. Every so
often, the XP portable decides to refuse
to print to the wireless printer, though, and I have to spend some quality time
with it so it will stop pouting.
I wish I could offer Chuck some good advice with his problem. I always mean to
document what I've done to get the XP
networking going when it's off - but i never do, just futz until it works.
The real solution is to upgrade to Win7. But I'm too cheap to do that on an old
laptop. :-)
