The remotes are so inexpensive that I don't find it worth while to fuss with
changing plugs.
Canon has done the same thing as others, one type of plug, small 'phone' type
for the lesser cameras and the custom one
you know for the higher end models. The phone plug type is the same as those
used on a bunch of other brands and models,
too.
With the 60D, they switched from custom to ordinary for the xxD series. A
sensible move overall, but it means I can't
use the same remote for both. I have an IR remote for the 60D, but have also
ordered a wireless of the same type as for
the 5D, just with different plug. That way I can use the hand controls
interchangeably. Hey, I could even fire them in
tandem!
All of this is more or less in aid of doing what you recommended to Jim, tripod
with prefocused camera, fired remotely
from a distance, even inside. Too busy/lazy to actually do it as yet. :-)
