Pride of Madeira is self-sown in this area. So people tend to regard it as a
weed.
In my opinion, the display of flowers is so marvellous, and it often takes
place in winter when nothing much else is in flower, that I consider it s
treasure. It isn't difficult to control either, if it "really" is in the wrong
place.
People here seem to have the same opinion about Spur valerian
(Centranthus ruber) which is summer-flowering and can put on a marvellous
mass display.
You can see 3 - 4 in the middle distance in this garden shot, where these
particular plants were deliberately planted.
