I've mentioned before that around 20 years ago, give or take, I got a tick
bite on my leg. Actually, I think the head did come off inside. Anyway,
standard bullseye and rash. All these years later I get a rash at that same
spot for months at a time. It only clears up during the summer when wearing
shorts a lot and exposure to UV light.
Never was diagnosed with anything, and I had done a major round of
antibiotics for something else, but some of the symptoms I dealt with were
that of Lyme Disease. At that time there were no other reported cases of it
in our area (west michigan), but a short time later several occurred.
I forgot about the liquid soap trick. Here in Iowa we have ticks coming out
of our ears. You can't go wading into the prairie grass without picking up a
half dozen. I hate picking them off. But I don't hesitate to get some
personal satisfaction in crushing them into blobs of protoplasm. I'm a
pacifist about many things, but ticks warrant no such honor.
