Most excellent image poster Nathan writes:
This particular image is not Leica, but it is shot with a very good
lens (35mm
Macro Limited) on a Pentax K5, and the cat's eyes are as sharp as can
be. The
sharpening you apply does not make them any sharper, it just creates an
illusion of sharpness in areas of the fur that were not in focus in the
original.
Nice cat portrait--triangular face--likely a male. Nailed the focus on
the eyes.
Afraid I'll have to don my "I agree with Moose" teeshirt. I am not sure
a tad of capture or
output (esp for web) sharpening is much of an intervention except for
the super minimalist.
Some decrease accutance does accompany the digitalization process (less
with larger sensors) and
downsizing. (that be said CH has commented he doesn't need to sharpen
much for the OM 5DII images).
Deconvolution applied to areas within the dof can really steal back a
bit of true resolution and is more of a
"de-blur" than sharpening--esp if the PSF of the source of the blur is
known. The blind deconvolution of FM has been demonstrated
here to work well enough
and can of course deblur areas outside the usual dof and effectively
change the dof for better or worse.
OK, I surrender and can't resist anymore--how does one port actions
from the 64 bit ver to 32 bit so FM can be used? I don't think I've
even ever used the 32 bit ver of PS on my newish PC.
Still too Fuzzy at times, Mike
