It seems I was not up with the play.
Toyota NZ have decided to start selling the FJ here, in competition with
about 30 other make/model combinations ranging from Suzuki to am
outlandishly large and competent Audi.
Here's a small selection of what I dredged up from Google NZ ....
http://www.drivesouth.co.nz/news/reviews/toyota/45182/fj-land-cruiser-a-
retro-gas-guzzler-at-a-thoroughly-modern-price
Headline
FJ Land Cruiser a retro gas-guzzler at a thoroughly modern price.
In a rare departure from the norms of the modern motoring age, on-road
competence, visibility, and interior comfort have patently been sacrificed for
off-road ability and old-school style in Toyota's FJ Land Cruiser.
And then there's the engine. Hitting the market with a hard-drinking petrol
V6 at a time when fuel prices are so high and when the majority of off-
roader buyers have become utterly diesel-dedicated is a risky concept. The
4.0-litre is punchy, bullish in sound and surge - but thirsty. And the harder
it's
worked, the thirstier it gets.
Pricing will aid the FJ. It's about $15,000 cheaper than TNZ had initially
tipped. Pre-launch the distributor envisaged it might sell 100 this year, but
initial interest has been high. They now anticipate 170 registrations, which
means it will still be the lowest-volume Cruiser, but a lot more prolific
nonetheless.
