The FJ40 is the perfect example of a "mall crawler".
I am embarrassed to admit that was one of the first ones to subscribe to the
mailings when it was announced. They had a video of that glorious thing
conquering a pile of rocks. I was in love. I couldnt wait for any of the new
announcements...
Then it came out and it was reported that you cant really take it offroad, coz
its frame is so brittle that it cracks...it also uses premium fuel, how dumb is
that? Grocerygetter
Then is the RAV 4...fugly as hell and that AWD is useful only if you are
already in the ditch and want to come out. Granted, the competitors dont fare
better, but at least the Ford is easy on the eye...:)
Some peeps talk about the Subarus (Stupid Ru's?)...just as the RAV4/CRV/Santa
Fe. OMG, by the time it detects the slippage, you are already in the
ditch....:)
The Touareg/Cayennes capabilities are grossly overrated. There is absolutely
no reason why the latter should exist, small penis car...:)
Well, there is the JK, a masochistic alternative...prolly most capable of all,
but do you really want to lay under it on a daily basis?
Then there is Honda...I really liked the looks of the original CRV...see my
comments about the AWD found in the cute SUV category tho...But there is the
Pilot. Magnificent piece of engineering...looking at it puts me to sleep...:)
I am thinking of marriage between the FJ 40 and the Pilot. Get the looks of he
former, leave the everything else to the latter (including the paint job, you
really cant expect decent metal protection from Toyota)...that would be the
mightiest vehicle on the planet.
Dreamy Moose...oooops, sorry-meant Boris...:)
P.S. BTW Brian, the car you are looking at is fantastic, it was my first
choice when I was on the market for an SUV, but choose the Jeep for two
reasons: Cheaper to repair and I really disliked the position of the front
seats in the Toyota. They are almost as low as thoz found in the roadsters.
