Interesting. I didn't know they sounded different.  I have a CD which is all 
Mustang sounds all derived from 3 aircraft.  The most interesting track is 
where they have combined the sounds of the three aircraft to simulate the sound 
of a very large flight of aircraft taking off for a mission during the war.  I 
also have a similar CD for P-38s. Both types of aircraft are what my Dad 
serviced at recently closed RAF Honington during the war.  Also, as a young 
child I lived next to an Air National Guard base that flew Mustangs.  I used to 
be able to ride my bike not far from the runway. The memories are still fairly 
vivid.
