Jim, one thing that might help the E-1 files look a little sharper is
a some USM sharpening using less-than-one pixel width. I forgot what
editor you use--I can probably be more specific with the instructions.
I'm usually using Picture Window Pro now for my editing and sharpening
and there is a custom-built sharpening algorithm in it that only
loosely follows the USM method. It's really good at making E-1 files
edge up without getting the halos and other uglies. Come to think of
it, the internal sharpening algorithm in The GIMP does pretty well
too. I can't seem to get anything from Adobe to sharpen E-1 files
right. Even Olympus can't do it right.
