It is definitely true that Minolta quality control and component quality went way down in later years. The '90s were not good for them and it continued on with the digital products. I selected the A1 over the A2 because of manufacturing issues in the A2 and then wisely avoided the D7D a year later when I bought the ultimate tank--the E-1.
