If you're REALLY keen to have a look at how your average networking
droid like me (I hold a CCDA and some specialisations) is certified to
ensure they provide quality services to you:
http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/learning_career_certifications_and_learning_paths_home.html
These are taught at the various levels, either as self-study online
courseware, web classes, and/or classroom training. Lower level
examinations are usually run online by a 3rd party training organisation
via a provider (e.g. pearson) in a proctored environment (some are
$220-ish a throw- so you do what you can to pass first time!!!), & the
higher ones have extensive Lab practical tests as well. Here in SA- & I
imagine it's similar across .au - the CCNA training forms part of one of
the TAFE college 'Certificate in IT' courses, & the CCNP training forms
part of one of the 'Bachelor of IT' university program variants.
