Does anyone here feel nostalgic and want to be transported back in the 1970s
and 80s, to experience the excitement of these lenses and cameras coming out
and paying $250 for the macro 50/3.5 lens and going out to take nice
pictures on film?
So much has changed... It is just not the same feeling when you get a 50/3.5
for $75, like it is no big deal, pocket change, and then you have it sitting
in a closet or try it with your digital camera.
I started in photography with a Minolta x-700 in 1984. Instead of the
normal 50mm lens, I decided to buy the 50mm f3.5 macro which cost as much
(or more) as the camera body (~$250). And a 360PX flash for something like
$200. Best purchases I have ever made. I used and enjoyed this lens and
flash to death. A year or two ago I sold the lens for something like $50 in
ebay. And someone gave me a mint (near new) 360PX flash to sell and no one
will pay more than $25. That's good equipment going for next to nothing. I
guess the same will happen to our nice digital cameras 5-10 years down the
road.

Subject: Re: [OM] 50 Macros
I have lens tests from Modern Photo and Pop Photo posted here:
http://www.edsawyer.com/lenstests/
Including some from the OM 50/3.5 macro and OM 50/2 macro.
My take is the 50/3.5 is a serious bargain. Back in the day when both were
available, there was only about a $40-50 difference in price between them,
(both were in the $240-280 range), nowadays you are lucky to find a 50/2
macro for under $400, while the 50/3.5 goes begging for $75.
