The worm drive saws typically have the motor to the left of the blade while
the "direct drive" typically have the motor to the right of the blade. Is
there anything else that would determine left vs. right hand?
I believe there is at least one "direct drive" similar to the worm drive
orientation.

It's strange that, although predominantly left handed, there are certain
things I can't do left handed. Using scissors is one of them, firing a
pistol is another. But I do wish that my infrequent right handedness
extended to using a circular saw. Left handed circular saws are
available but only at extremely high prices. But using a right handed
circular saw in a left handed manner is pretty dangerous. I have to be
extremely careful and avoid it whenever possible.
