Long before the web, I heard outside counsel tell some top management never to 
commit any words to paper or speak them 
out loud if they wouldn't be comfortable reading them on the front page of the 
WSJ.

Substitute your local paper and/or a popular blog, and that's not bad advice 
for all of us. ;-)
