You'd think in this digital age that the camera companies could allow
us to program a function button on the camera to instantly place the
lens in Hyperfocal mode.
Yep, totally agree. Not any reason it couldn't be done with ease. I
have the CHDK hack set to give hyperfocal distance calculation at
half press, but rarely have a dof issue with the small sensor--can
think of missing only a few times off hand due to that. It could even
change it for the lens if necessary--eg. quite a bit of field
curvature in the ZE Zeiss 28 f2 and may benefit from stopped down a
stop more than one would think for a hyperfocal type of shot. Perhaps
it adds to the 3D'ness in some shots but can a pain in others.
Wish Zeiss had the tables with an F-stop option so one did not have to
guess what effect the T-stop has in the calculation comparison between
the full wave solution and thin lens assumption. In any event aperture
and magnification are not the ONLY factors in dof calculation though
the
magnitude of the other effects may not be dramatic.
Oops, 8:40 time to try and get home.
Like to focus on the inessential, Mike
