Yea, right... Canada's totally independent when it comes to Metric vs Imperial.
Like when Ontario, being fiscally responsible for its citizens' health (unlike
the US, which makes more tax money when people are unhealthy), decided to jack
up the tobacco tax to constrain smoking.
What happened instead was a massive black market in cheap cigarettes, streaming
across the border. Ontario threw up its hands in despair, and lowered the taxes.
Pierre Trudeau said trying to govern next to the US was like "sleeping with an
elephant." As Canada's single biggest trading partner, Canada knuckles under
when their US customers want their widgets in Imperial units.
