If it is symmetrical in all respects it can't be. However, if the
mounting points on the back side of the plate are not symmetrically
located relative to the ends than the plate would assume a different
position in the camera if it was rotated 180 degrees. For example, it
might shift the plates position enough to the right that it interfered
with the wind sprocket.
