Is this an Apple display? If so, don't worry, be happy. It Just Works.
Apple invented system-wide colour profiling, and it took Windows
about five years to catch up. I haven't been following it well, but I
think Apple still has the edge, in that their Safari browser is one of
the few that actually respects embedded colour profiles of web images
-- other browsers assume everything is in "stupid" RGB (sRGB),
Microsoft's first attempt at colour management -- make everything look
like a $49 13" CRT.
If it's a third-party display and the vendor does not have a colour
profile you can download and install, you can build a profile using
System Preferences --> Displays --> Color --> Calibrate...
(You can check the above System Preference and see if an appropriate
Display Profile is already selected.)
That should give you a "good enough" profile for most purposes. If you
don't feel the eyeball adjustments are working for you, you will have
to buy a hardware colour calibration device. I use the Monoco EZ-Color.
