Hi Ken and others,
What comes to mind is the possible influence of the "built for digital
lenses" with their telecentric design. If I read the drawings right, the
cones in which the lightrays come into focus have a sharper point than with
the older non-digital lenses. This would result in a smaller CoC if the
sensor is for example 1 mm behind the focus point. This would result in a
larger DOF. I have given this some thoughts when I first bought my E-1, but
stopped thinking about it when I almost immediately stopped shooting film. I
do think however that I have to open up my lenses more than I expect for the
same shallow DoF.
