Thanks, Jim.
My wife was most impressed, although she had been surprised by its flowering.
I have asked her and she says that she normally leaves the plant outside where
occasional (and accidental) watering will prompt it to start its flower spike,
normally in the early spring. She thinks, however, that she has mollycoddled
the plant and that it has therefore not been "shocked" into activity until
later in the year.
She plans to leave it like that for next year since it looks so good in the
border; it's under a large acer and mostly in the shade.
