I grew up in Boston, and still live in its suburbs. Looking at
Nathan Wajsman's pictures of Boston, I'm fascinated not only
by the photos themselves, but also by his viewpoint - what he
took pictures of - which in many cases includes things I walk
by and never really notice.
I recently ran across an interesting set of maps that analyzes
who takes pictures where. It is called Locals and Tourists
http://www.flickr.com/photos/walkingsf/sets/72157624209158632/
It separates Geotaggers' World Atlas (GTWA) pictures into ones
taken by local people, and by visitors, and plots the two
types on a map. It's fascinating to see the patterns of core
city versus neighborhoods outside the center in city after
city.
Boston is #14. San Francisco is #3, and it's almost like the
tourists and locals inhabit separate worlds.
