The number of cameras Olympus has produced in the E-series is not so large that
it would have been difficult to include the update feature in the new software
(it doesn't work in the Olympus Camera Updater utility either). The update
feature works fine in both Studio 2 and Master 2. So it is just a decision to
not include it and in my opinion a stupid decision.
By the way, when I was checking in Studio 2, I found that there HAD been a body
firmware update that I had missed (!!!). So I did that without any problems
using Studio 2. That's an accidental example of why they should not have
included the E-1 in the list of supported cameras. After all, they ALREADY
know how to do the updates :-) The update feature would also be needed for
someone buying or receiving an older camera. The E-1 is built like a tank and
mine continues to work just fine.
What other older E-System models are no longer supported?
On a related point, I do have to give kudos to Olympus as when they came out
with Studio 2 they provided a free upgrade to owners of Studio 1 :-)
Cheers,
Mike Hobart
