Not even a closely related car. Ford came out with a new sedan in 2005
called the 500. Larger than the then Taurus, all it managed to do was
join with several years of letting the Taurus languish without
freshening to slow Taurus sales and lead Ford to drop it.
Great misstep, as there was no 500 loyalty, but a great deal of Taurus
loyalty. So they "dropped" the 500 and introduced a "new" Taurus, which
was a rebadged, visually repackaged 500. I guess it worked?
I rented a Fusion for a month last fall and had rented one of the later
'old' Tauri maybe 3 years before and driven it in the same area.
Although a very different car, I'd say the Fusion is closer to the size
of the old Taurus. I liked the Fusion a lot, but for the odd drivers
seat adjustments.
Just almost finished up my taxes. I made a "little" error in my
estimating a few months ago. Oooops, guess we'll be driving the old
92-96 cars and I'll be using the old 5D a while longer. No great
hardship in that and a little belt tightening, I suppose.
