I'm not always need 1:2, I just like lenses that can focus closer, fast and
with performance as good or even better than a normal lens. The 50/2 and
90/2 just fall into these requirements. On the other hand I like the 50/3.5
more, to my eyes it gives much better color/tone in the film age, I sold my
first 50/2 ten years ago due to that reason. I found both 50/3.5 and 90/2
produce image with very nice color/tone. I used the 50/3.5 as a family lens
more than a macro.
I agree with you 50mm is a bit short for outdoor macro. For higher
magnification works, I use the 80/4 macro, if I need more working distance I
use 135/4.5. On the other hand the 50/3.5 is just fine with E-1:

I mainly use the 85/2 for family portrait, I don't use it for macro but it
is always a plus to be able to focus closer and with correction mechanism to
make sure the performance is maintained at close distance.
