Certainly, but we're getting out of reality touch regarding what is needed,
and can be actually done by camera makers.
What I'm asking for is this :

This (crap) shoot is the LCD of my pany lx2. What I want is the bar at the
right. And yes, the yellow slider is proportional to DOF and changes in real
time, depending on focus point, zoom power and aperture.
And I'm not amused a 200€, 5 years old compact can do things my shinny brand
new E-P1 can't. Even less so when I consider Olympus's been making cameras for
more than 75 years while Panasonic is in the business since yesterday.
I hate when a product, openly targeted to "experts", is emasculated. It's like
I'm pampered by Olympus, and they're patting me in the back saying "oh, you
can't possibly want that, mind you, that's really advanced stuff you don't
need". I want it all, and I want it now (and I'm not even american).
