I think that the lack of manual focus enhanced screens stems from the
(inaccurate) assumption that with AF no one wants to have precision manual
focusing. I suspect that if they made a split screen or all matte type it
would likely be dimmer; which on the E System would get it ripped apart on
forums such as DeepPee.
I will confess that apart from the occasional manual tweak I am relying on
the AF to get it right. The screens in both the E-1 and E-3 do sort of
shimmer/snap to my eyes as they transition through the sharp focus point but
I don't feel its reliable.

It was such a precise methodology in the OM film cameras and yet in the E
series one is essentially reduced to guess work.
