Hi Ken, Andrew and all,
From: Ken Norton <ken@xxxxxxxxxxx>
>And don't forget the size difference between the 40/2 and the 35-100/2
Absolutely. Although with the adapter fitted, the 40/2 is no longer a
"pancake" lens -- if ever was.
>The 40/2, which is blasted near perfect with film somehow doesn't seem to

Not in my experience, I have no complaints about it with digital. I agree
that (even with film) is not the sharpest wide-open lens on earth, and a
late 50/1.4 or miJ 50/1.8 may outperform it at the same f-stop, but I still
like it a lot; technical performance is good enough for me and "image style"
is one of the nicest.
>It's still mighty fine (especially the

Couldn't agree more -- see my previous post in this thread.
>but hasn't been the ultra-lens that we'd hoped it would have been on

For instance, Cosina-Voigtlander's Ultron 40/2 (I've got the SL-2 version in
Nikon mount; same optics than the discontinued SL which was available in OM
among other mounts) outperforms it clearly. But I haven't had experience
enoungh with this CV to be able to judge "artistic" performance.
Line-pairs-per-mm and MTF curves are not everything ;-)
>I've been a fan of the the 50/1.8 and 50/1.4 on the E-thingies.
I had used them too when I was a Canon user...
<http://cjss.sytes.net/atachaos/razas/versus.jpeg> 50/1.8 (MC, not miJ,
IIRC)
<http://cjss.sytes.net/atachaos/razas/IMG_1491.JPG> 50/1.4 (>1.1M)
On film, I prefer the rendering of the 1.4, despite the "higher performance"
of the 1.8 miJ. But I also keep a silvernose 1.4 -- technically the worst,
but with a really nice "flavour".
>When stopped down to F2.8, those two lenses seem to

Agreed.

But many zooms end at that: 35-70, 28-70...

>Conventional lens adapters are for wimps. Consider this - 38mm f2.8.

Hey, how did you do that? I own a Robot with a beautiful 40/1.9...
Cheers,
