Th Constitution would have been better if it read "natural person" as
opposed to "person". Corporations are not persons or natural persons.
As Thom Hartmann often mentions, the decision by the Supreme Court
(which is very short) actually comes to the conclusion that Corporations
are NOT people and are not entitled to protection under the Constitution
(as in donating huge sums of money). A court clerk (I believe an
ex-railroad executive) tacked a one paragraph synopsis perhaps
intentionally mis-representing the courts opinion. Over the years,
people have used that one paragraph as the facts of the case. New
Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor mentioned the widespread
misinterpretation of this case early on after her appointment.
The Supreme Court is currently deciding if it should remove ALL
restrictions on corporations. Judge Roberts (a corporate lawyer) has
NEVER decided in favor with a person, he has always sided with a
corporation. That will be the darkest day.
