No personal experience, but did you know that Windows 7 Professional
and Ultimate have a facility to run applications in XP compatibility
mode? That might help you out.
Personally, I'm holding off as long as possible for a couple of
reasons. Firstly, I'll have to install from scratch, including
reinstalling all apps, which will be a bit of a pain. Secondly, and
more seriously, I have a SCSI flatbed and a SCSI film scanner that I'd
like to keep using. It looks like that's going to be a problem
because of limited driver support for the SCSI card, and none at all
if I opt for the 64-bit version over 32-bit. I could move the
scanners over to another PC and keep that one running XP, but then I'd
have to keep moving the Huey & monitor around to keep the monitor
calibration. Unless I buy more hardware, but I'd rather spend the
money on lenses.

Stand firm for what you believe in, until and unless logic and experience
prove you wrong. Remember: when the emperor looks naked, the emperor *is*
naked, the truth and a lie are not "sort-of the same thing" and there is
no aspect, no facet, no moment of life that can't be improved with pizza.
