In the US Black Friday is the Friday following the Thanksgiving holiday
which is always on a Thursday. It represents the start of the Christmas
shopping season and is often accompanied by stores opening at all hours
of day or night and having crazy sales... such things as a TV set
selling for 1 cent... but maybe only one and to the first person in
line. There are multiple theories on the origin of the name but I have
always assumed it referred to the accounting definition. See Wiki
