Hmmm,
AHA guidelines say data does NOT support routine use of Ant
prophylaxis in pts with stents. (pg 1749) After a bit they are
completely endothelializied.
Now other concurrent cardiac conditions could change that. Would
check with the cardiologist and not necessarily the dentist.
I see some odd recommendations regarding oral bisphosphonates and
scaring patients with a high risk of fracture from taking them from
a very remote (if present) risk of jaw issues.
Use of ATB with dental procedures in patients with prosthetic joints is
contentious. Not clearly beneficial, but an infected joint is such a
horrible disaster, (there are some case reports) probably not too many
orthopedic surgeons wouldn't use it.
That be said ATB pre-Rx was massively overused for years w/o good data
and likely resulted in much more harm than good.
