This is definitely one of those "personal preference" things, I know. But
for me, the extra height gives me good purchase with the right hand and the
camera leverages into the heal of the hand so I don't even need to squeeze
the camera to hold it.
Yes, it does make it look like a professional piece of gear. No doubt. To
this day when I haul it around (with grip) it gets attention. "Oooh, Nice
Camera!"
Hey, it works, and frankly the shutter delay is not much different than any
of the latest-greatest live-view DSLRs. I usually use manual focus these
days and zone-focus things. By going to a predominantly manual operation the
speed of the camera is not too shabby.
