I suppose it depends on whether you think of mathematics as a group of
disciplines or as a single one. The first is obviously the case.
I prefer a simpler and more logical approach. The Americans are wrong
- as usual.
After all, it is they who have the contradiction between full and
abbreviated forms.
Not a problem, merely an annoyance.
