No doubt epoxy and maybe even duct tape have their applications, but it's
very easy to get microphone fittings down to 3/8" and camera adaptors thence
to 1/4". And the weight of microphone bases means that nothing moves
without "clear instructions".

Peirs has a good idea. I used goose necks 25 years ago for macro work. Cheap
and works great. I used epoxy putty to mount the screw in the neck of the
neck.
