I forgot that a large number of false positives is actually what drove
me to get rid of AVG. Because it was so resource intensive there was no
reasonable sharing of the machine when it was running. To solve that I
set it up to run after I had gone to bed and shut down the machine
afterwards. Only months later when something didn't run did I suspect
AVG. I checked the "virus vault" and discovered about a dozen files it
had quarantined and I knew nothing about because I wasn't around any
more when it was running. The files in the virus vault had no real
problems. All had been false positives. It took me quite some time to
check them with other virus software (including Avast). No problems
were found. I restored the files to their rightful place and switched
to Avast.
