I only have a Sekonic L328F, the ability to set flash sync speed from 1s to
1/500s is good for me to use it for shutter speed test too.
For DOF control? I think 1/2 stop is not that critical....and I may not see
the difference.

Yes, that's a good remedy. I sometimes think about switching over to
manual, which would be better than memo, but I usually think I'm going
to get the shot in time, and I dislike the possibility of having the
lens between stops as I work with DOF.
What incident light meter do you like to use?
