Hi all,
I'm awake in the middle of the night (3.30am) and I like to read the OM
digest when the house is quiet and I am alone.
I enjoyed the photos from Mike (seascapes), Chris (Grandpa memories) and
Nathan in Alicante. Sorry Fernando, I can't comment on yours as my
connection crashed repeatedly when linked to Flickr.
All great shots, and they show how we record what is close to hand, unless
we are on a specific mission. Mike's photos remind me how I miss living
600ft (200 m ) up on a steep hillside (since separation) and waking up daily
to an outlook over all of mankind (locally, that is) and the geography.
Chris has done well to record family memories.
Nathan's photos cause me to reflect on the very different social attitudes
and lifestyles of different peoples. In Spain it seems there is a LOT more
social 'hanging out' in a very relaxed and friendly manner than where I live.
Here people seem more tense and unconnected with each other, and there
is not the same sense of society. I remember when I was a student in
Oxford (UK) many years ago and I had a Spanish girlfriend. She asked me a
telling question - "do people laugh a lot in New Zealand?' They don't, in the
same way as in Spain.
Nathan seems to have perfected a technique of photographing people when
they don't realise it; here, people would tend to be somewhat hostile if being
photographed by a stranger, on the street. Or that's what I suspect. Maybe
it's me that's the problem.
Where I am now it's kind of a rural place.
Here's a link to an unusual view. ( I was inspired (in part) by a site where
the
writers were expressing revulsion at "pretty" landscapes, and set out to
make ugly landscape photos. This scene is one of many similar just 10 - 15
km from where I sit now.
