I understand your reasonings, and the focus-slop issue is one of those
things which is inherent to the focus mechanism itself and not all
manufacturers were able to figure this out--Olympus lenses were always a bit
weak in this department. But, no manufacturer was immune from the
problems--it's just that some were more problematic than others.
As to the usability issues, zooms will always have more general-purpose
usability than a prime. This is not a "world has moved on" thing, but just a
logistics thing. When shooting events, I'll gladly use zooms over primes.
But when finessing a shot (static images), I really like using the old
Zuikos.
As to Olympus falling behind, well, I'd say that is nonsense. The E-system
lenses are as good, if not better than any current equivalent from the other
manufacturers.
