A couple of days ago Wayne of Melbourne asked about wine preferences.
Now that I have become a good vintage myself, I reckon I can pick a good
vintage when I fall into one ...
And ( no surprise here ) I'm not prepared to pay a lot.
I greatly prefer reds, and of those, Australian reds. Not being very patriotic
about the NZ reds - but I'm paying, and I'm drinking - they don't get enough
degree days to suit my taste. FWIW, I reckon Pinot noir tastes like mud ...
I prefer Shiraz, Merlot, and Cabernet sauvignon.
My favourite tipple at the moment is OBiKWA from Western State, South
Africa. Sold as a loss leader at several local supermarkets for about $6 a
bottle. It is really nice ...
Australian wines; Jackman Ridge is great and can be got for $7 a bottle if
you are lucky. For a tad more Banrock estate is OK. Jacob's Creek good
but costs more again. Queen Adelaide I will not touch; usually is not quite
right. Nobilo's on special not all that wonderful. OK but could be better.
Sentura from S E Australia is very nice - I think it is a House blend.
My 2 cents
Brian Swale.
