I don't know what scanner you are thinking about. The FS4000 is a
dedicated 35mm film scanner. I use a flatbed for larger formats.

The FS4000 isn't "one-off". It doesn't have slide or roll feeder
available, although I probably wouldn't buy them anyway, at the prices I
recall for the Nikon units. It does do strips of six frames and sets of
four slides at once. Given that all my older negs, color and B&W are
already cut into strips of 4 or 6, having new film cut into sixes is a
reasonable compromise.
For large batches with older, lower rez film or where ultimate IQ isn't
needed, I can do 5 strips of up to 6 frames of negs or 12 slides in a
batch on the 9950F flatbed. It's very good, but not quite up to the
dedicated film unit - at least when pixel peeping. :-)

Never had a glitch with the FS4000. Seems solidly made and is a simple,
straightforward design. A stepper motor runs the film holders vertically
through the horizontal image path between light source and sensor. I
think the focusing motor and stepper motor are the only moving parts.
There's an advantage of mechanical simplicity in not having to
accommodate bulk feed mechanisms. I doubt that I'll ever stress or wear
it out.
